The Seafaring in East Africa (SEA) Project studies the relationship between the Indian Ocean World and East Africa. The scope of this project includes anthropological, archaeological, and scientific research to further our knowledge of the fascinating cultures and peoples of East Africa, their influence over other cultures of the Indian Ocean region, and how they were in turn influenced by them.
The SEA Project is committed to decolonizing knowledge production. Research must be conducted ethically and in a manner that benefits community stakeholders in cultural heritage.
The SEA Project works with local communities to generate archaeological and anthropological data, making research a more collaborative and less exploitative enterprise
